Chica is designed to be eaten in the week before your period starts, which happens to be a time when we feel more stressed. AKA we’re ‘PMSing.’ You may feel the affects of stress more during this time, because you are in the Luteal phase of your menstrual cycle, and your hormones are at their lowest levels. The hormone we enjoy having most of the month, Estrogen, actually helps us feel better, boosting mood and energy, so without it, we wonder how life suddenly became so difficult.
Chica helps you feel better through all that by supporting your Liver. Over time, stress stops or slows your Liver Qi. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), stagnant Liver Qi is associated with anger, moodiness, and difficult PMS.
Qi is the energy that runs constantly in life, so when Qi moves freely through you, you feel relaxed and replenished. Additionally, TCM considers your Liver Qi to be the boss of the Qi in all the other organs in your body. Therefore, taking care of your Liver Qi has the trickle down effect of helping the rest of your body run more smoothly (think, easier digestion!).
Finally, Chica nourishes the Spleen, which is considered our emotional digester. Just like food can get stuck in your body and cause pain, emotions can do the same when the Spleen is unable to digest them well. When your body is constantly reacting to stress (is that just me?) , you begin to lose Qi. Fortunately, a healthy Spleen replenishes your Qi – keeping you moving and grooving.
Turns our there’s more than one way to have a good flow!
